Energy Efficiency and Healthy Options for your New Home

When it comes to your new home, everyone’s tastes and wish lists are often very different, however, one common element about most new home purchasers is that they want to make sure their home is as energy efficient as possible.

This is one of the reasons energy efficient new housing programs, such as R-2000, are becoming an increasingly popular choice for new home buyers. Every R-2000 home is designed, built, tested and certified to meet exacting technical standards and are a unique blend of technology and workmanship. R-2000 homes offer significant energy savings, health and comfort advantages and are more environmentally friendly than the conventional home.

To highlight some of the benefits of R-2000 construction, the Nova Scotia Home Builders’ Association (NSHBA) is hosting its 22nd annual R-2000 Showcase of Homes for four weekends beginning May 22 – June 13. There are 16 homes on display across Halifax Regional Municipality, Enfield, and Belnan.

“The R-2000 Showcase is a popular event that provides the public with an opportunity to learn about the benefits energy efficient, environmentally friendly homes offer,” says Paul Pettipas, NSHBA chief executive officer. “Making the choice to build an R-2000 home not only provides you with a well built home, but you are also helping to achieve greater environmental sustainability for our future generations.”

If a new house is in your future plans, you will want to visit the R-2000 Showcase of Homes from May 22 – June 13. Information on house locations and directions will be available on the NSHBA website at in the upcoming weeks. Watch for the R-2000 Showcase of Homes publication and advertisements with the house listings in The Metro.

Partners for this year’s R-2000 Showcase of Homes include Atlantic Home Warranty, Conserve Nova Scotia, R-2000, Bell Aliant, Nova Scotia Power Inc. and Scotian Homes.

Great open house today, Sherry. Good to see so many builders (and members) seting the bar for energy-efficient new home construction in Nova Scotia - or even for the rest of the country. Can't wait to visit all the homes on the tour this year!
