Ask the Experts > Floating Deck

I am planning to build a deck around half of our new pool. It will not be connected to the house and is approx 5ft off the ground. I am wondering if I need concrete footings or would the right amount of deck blocks be ok?

Rob ,the short answer is yes there are ways to use deck blocks in this application. Many pool companies have Engineer drawings that are acceptable to the Municipality. My opinion is to do it right the first time and use concrete footings. The deck will be stable over the long term and with winters like the one we just survived, stability is the key. Good luck on your project.
